In 2011, I went on a journey… On the face of it, I traveled to Peru. What it turned out to be was a journey to my heart. Touched by the energy of sacred places, the purity of the energy and seeing the beauty around me, my heart opened. And I cried… and cried… and cried! In doing that, I reconnected with my spirit. I started to ask ‘who am I?’ and ‘why am I here?’ The result was “Polishing the Diamond – A Travel Guide to Living Your Highest Potential” which was published in 2014.

I see each of us as a diamond with many different facets. When we come into this world we are pure, radiant. Like the precious stone, we also come in different colours, different carats, different cuts. The diamond is our uniqueness, our infinite potential. It’s who we are. No matter what happens to us in life, it cannot be taken away from us.

Of course, babies need to be taken care of, encouraged to expand and grow. People take care of babies in their own ways. As the baby grows, he or she is taught by their loved ones about what matters, and about who they are… or often who their loved ones think they “should” be.

Then, as they grow, babies become children and children are taught to speak. To say what they think and feel, what they need and want. Then… what happens?

I’d like to put it to you that many are given a lot of ‘don’t messages’!! Don’t touch, don’t feel sad, don’t get angry, don’t be bossy, don’t cry, don’t say that…what else?

So, we come into this world with unlimited potential, and then we are told ‘don’t’. Until a child is told he can’t do what he wants, he believes he can do anything!!

The question is – to what extent do we limit ourselves to someone else’s opinion of who we should be?

Just as our true nature can become overshadowed by thoughts, beliefs and conditioning that are not aligned with who we truly are, so the diamond within our heart can become dull. Without knowing it, life’s experiences and the messages we are taught can harden our heart, adding layers of dirt and grime, with the result that our diamond loses its lustre.

We forget who we are.

If we feel tired, dull, frustrated, angry, resentful, overwhelmed, unseen, unheard, unappreciated, afraid… betrayed, abandoned… stuck… it can mean it’s time for a cleanse and polish!

When we open our heart, we can let go of our pain.

We can go within, see the truth of who we are, and claim our value.

If you are a new coach and uncertain how to grow your business…

The biggest challenge can be understanding and valuing who you are and what you are offering.

Discover your value, your passion and find your voice. You are already unique, you simply need to recognize how that looks, claim it – then fly. Appreciate your value and see your value appreciate!

About Glynis Stevens

An accredited coach with ICF, I founded Freedom Coaching in 2008 to help clients understand their emotional fears, then to find ways to change the patterns and move beyond them. In 2011, I met Helen Barton and John The Beloved, and life has not been the same since! Exploring my spirituality has been a journey to the heart , seeing the beauty and the inter-connectedness of life. I've felt like a child opening a box with the most wonderful present inside! Being curious, I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. I’m an adventurer and love to travel, and for me it’s an absolute delight to guide clients who want to go on the journey of getting to know and appreciate who they are, to polish the diamond within their heart, claiming their value and finding their voice. I support the Harpswell Foundation in Phnom Penh. A charitable organisation that provides education, housing, and leadership training for young women, I offer mentoring to some amazing, courageous young women on how to be their best.
