Ruth Hadikin describes Libra as the sign of balance, harmony, Universal Law, and right relationship
This week the Sun entered Libra marking the beginning of this year’s Libra Season. Libra is a particularly interesting sign to look at from a Soul-Centred or esoteric perspective, and we got off to a powerful start to this year’s Libra Season with the Supermoon Lunar Eclipse in Aries (the balance-point of Libra Season).
Libra is the only sign of the Zodiac that is not symbolized by a human or animal, which has led many astrologers to conclude that Libra is the only sign that is not symbolized by a living thing… but that could be a very misleading perspective. On many levels we could say that Libra is not symbolized by a living thing, but rather is symbolized by life itself.
If you saw my Facebook post you’ll be aware that one of the themes of the Supermoon was the Aries-Libra axis: esoterically Aries represents existence itself, while Libra represents balance, harmony and right relationship. So there is this very interesting relationship between existence and balance. We might think of the Aries-Libra polarity as ‘life hanging in the balance’, in other words a finely balanced Eco-system that sustains life.
Think Libra, think relationship. It is tempting to just think of love, romance, and partnerships when we think of Libra but that is more the domain of the 7th house. The sign of Libra itself is a cardinal sign and cardinality is about action in one way or another. Cardinal signs pioneer, they take the lead in something. Esoterically the sign of Libra is about choice and right relationship, so the sign of Libra is about pioneering in the choices we make about how we relate to each other, and the Universal system of which we are a part.
So now we’re getting closer to the deeper meaning of Libra: yes, Libra is about harmony and balance, but to be more specific, it is about the action we take and the choices we make that maintain and restore perfect harmony and balance. On an esoteric level Libra is about Universal Law but that term can be misleading, because we tend to think of laws as ‘rules’ and usually man-made ones at that.
When we think Universal law… we need to think Nature. The Sun rises and sets according to Universal Law. Apples fall from trees because of Universal Law (Newton called it gravity, but it is nevertheless a part of Universal Law). Planets revolve around the Sun and Solar Systems exist, because of Universal Law.
“It is the balancing between the pairs of opposites which makes the man in Libra sometimes difficult to understand; he appears to vacillate but never for long and often unnoticeably, for there is always the final balancing of the qualities with which he is equipped.” – The Tibetan, Esoteric Astrology
In Esoteric Astrology, the Tibetan Master tells us that there are really only six energetic spectrums, yet we experience them as 12 signs because the current level of human consciousness experiences them as ‘separation’. When we move towards unity consciousness, we experience the Aries-Libra spectrum as one which we may sum up as ‘the harmony of existence’.
Existence itself is a conscious, living, intelligence, of which we are all part. The higher octave of the Aries-Libra polarity brings us Higher Intuition (Aries) and Higher Love (Libra) and with this comes the innate knowing that we are all at one with all that is. From there, there is no separation, and existence itself IS harmony. And THAT is right relationship.
